Bleeds and safety zones

To print correctly to the edge of the page, artwork had to be set up with bleed. Because a press cannot print exactly to the paper's edge, pages are printed oversized and then trimmed to size. Documents were designed 1/8 inch larger all the way around: an 8.5 × 11 inch piece was built at 8.75 × 11.25 inch.

The same care applied to a safety zone. Because finished pieces are trimmed, no text or critical graphic should sit too close to the edge — keeping at least 1/8 inch between critical text and the edge of the page prevents anything important from being cut off.

Online advertising#

Beyond the printed magazine, the ACN Review offered two ways to advertise online. An online-only display ad ran in the digital edition of the bi-monthly magazine but was not mailed with the printed issue. Every online ad included a link to the advertiser's website, where applicable, plus contact information.

Online-only display sizes matched the print dimensions: full page at 8.25 × 10.75 inches and a double-page spread at 17.25 × 10.75 inches. Business cards could also be designed through the magazine for personal use.
